Guthrie Collins

Guthrie Collins was named the Director of Campus Recreation and Head Coach for Disc Golf in 2021.

Collins is charged with launching and leading the disc golf program and overseeing the growth of club sports. Additionally, the position provides oversight to intramurals, wellness, and fitness initiatives.

Collins transitioned to the position from the Office of Student Life, where he had served as a resident director for two years.

Prior to coming to Houghton, Collins served as a resident director at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Mich., where he gained experience addressing the needs of students, as well as leadership and mentorship and program development.

Collins was a student-athlete at both Ferris State University (men's club volleyball) and Spring Arbor (track and field and men's golf). He also served a year as an assistant golf coach at Spring Arbor.

Since coming to Houghton, Collins became highly involved in the growing sport of disc golf, winning a number of high-level amateur tournaments. He plays extensively on Houghton's two on-campus 18-hole disc golf courses.

"This new position for me is about providing opportunities for students. I've loved serving in the Student Life Office over the past two years. That experience has definitely shaped how I see the needs of students here at Houghton," said Collins. "I am eager to meet those needs by providing creative, meaningful, and compelling opportunities. Both club and collegiate sports were a huge part of my own college experience. I'm eager to continue to turn Houghton into a disc golf destination and I'm honored to be the person who gets to champion club sports here at Houghton."
