ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Houghton softball team dropped both ends of a road doubleheader to Nazareth on Wednesday, falling 9–1 in game one and 8–0 in game two. Despite the final scores, several Highlanders turned in notable individual performances at the plate and in the circle.
Game 1: Nazareth 9, Houghton 1
Houghton was limited to just two hits offensively, but one swing provided a highlight moment.
Kelley Burnett led the way, going 1-for-2 with a solo home run, accounting for the Highlanders' only run of the game. The long ball marked her first of the season and showcased Houghton's ability to generate power even in a difficult matchup.
Rebecca Oates recorded the other hit for Houghton, finishing 1-for-2 with a single.
In the circle, Kareena Ulfig tossed 3.2 innings, striking out two, while Abigail Pitts came on in relief and recorded the final out.

Game 2: Nazareth 8, Houghton 0
The Highlanders showed more offensive production in game two, collecting four hits and working two walks, but were unable to push a run across.
Danielle Nelson paced the lineup, going 1-for-2, while also executing a sacrifice bunt to move runners into scoring position.
Kareena Ulfig added a 1-for-3 performance at the plate, and Abigail Pitts helped her own cause with a 1-for-3 outing. Hannah Fish also contributed offensively, finishing 1-for-2.
Kelley Burnett reached base via a walk and battled through a tough day behind the plate, while Sarah McArthur added patience at the top of the lineup with a walk.
In the circle, Abigail Pitts went the distance, throwing all four innings while allowing eight runs (four earned) and working through defensive miscues behind her.
