KEUKA PARK, N.Y. -- The 2025 softball season ended for Houghton in heartbreaking fashion, a 6-5 extra inning loss at Keuka on Friday.
Houghton was the first to get on the board after an RBI double from
Kelley Burnett in the top of the third.
Sarah McArthur scored for the Highlanders. Keuka responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up 3-1 and them scored another in the fifth for a 4-1 lead.Â
The visiting Highlanders rallied with three runs in the sixth, coming off an
Angelina Tantillo single that scored
Danielle Nelson and a two-RBI double from
Hannah Fish that plated Tantillo and
Olivia Carr.
Keuka regained a one-run lead in the bottom of the sixth. But Houghton wasn't ready to quit, scoring once in the top of the seventh to tie the contest at five runs apiece.
Neither team could muster a run over the next two innings. However, the Wolves moved the runner (placed on second for the international tiebreaker) from second to third on a sac hit and then brought her home a on sac fly to center for the win in the bottom of the 10th.
Kareena Ulfig led Houghton at the plate with three hits, while seven other Highlanders registered a hit. Nelson scored two runs.
Carr went the distance on the mound, allowing six runs on 11 hits, while striking out eight and walking one.
