UTICA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Poly Wildcats claimed two shutout wins over Houghton softball on Friday.
The host Wildcats took game one, 4-0, and finished the sweep with an 11-0 five-inning victory in the nightcap.
Houghton managed just three hits across the two games, with
Kelley Burnett,
Olivia Carr and
Kareena Ulfig contributing for the Highlanders.
Ulfig went the distance in the first game, allowing four runs on 12 hits while walking two and striking out two.
In the second game,
Rebecca Oates got the start but lasted just one inning. The freshman allowed six runs on five hits. Carr came on in relief and pitched the final three frames, allowing five runs on eight hits, while striking out three batters.
Houghton stays in Utica for a Saturday doubleheader vs. Utica at 1 and 3 p.m.
