HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton softball dropped a pair of games to Sage on Friday afternoon.
The Gators won both in five innings, taking the first 8-0 and the second 19-2.
In the opener, Houghton managed just one hit in the contest, a single by
Kareena Ulfig.
Ulfig also started the game on the mound, allowing seven runs on four hits. The bulk of the damage came in the fourth frame, when the Gators scored seven times.
Abigail Pitts closed out the final two innings, allowing a run on one hit and a walk.
In the nightcap, Sage batters took centerstage, pounding out 16 hits. They were also aided by eight walks, three wild pitches and two Houghton errors.
The Gators scored 12 times in the third inning to take control.
At the plate,
Sarah McArthur tripled, singled and scored Houghton's first run on a passed ball. Ulfig and
Olivia Carr each delivered singles.
Carr allowed 11 runs on six hits and five walks in two innings on the mound. Ulfig came on in relief, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and three walks over three innings.
