Record 103 Student-Athletes Named to E8 President's List

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- With 103 student-athletes honored for the fall 2024 semester, Houghton athletics has produced its highest ever total of athletes named to the Empire 8 President's List which recognizes academic performance.

The previous mark of 86 was reached during the spring 2021 semester.

These student-athletes maintained a 3.75 GPA or higher to earn a spot on the E8 Presidents' List. The total represents 37 percent of Houghton's student-athletes who participated on intercollegiate teams during the semester.

Houghton's overall GPA for student-athletes during the semester was 3.39.

In addition, 15 of Houghton's 17 teams were named Empire 8 Conference All-Academic Teams for registering a team grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the spring semester. It is the third-straight semester that the department has reached that number. That number tied for third-most in the E8.

Houghton men's tennis led all E8 men's teams with a 3.8 GPA. Women's soccer had a team GPA of 3.69 to lead Houghton's women's teams.

Student-athletes representing each of the conference's nine member institutions were among those honored in the 2024 Fall edition of the E8 President's List. Leading the way was St. John Fisher, which had an impressive 271 student-athletes earn recognition. Nazareth was second overall, as 197 student-athletes that garnered this honor, while SUNY Brockport had 179 student-athletes garner E8 President's List accolades. Rounding out the top-five within the conference were Utica University with 158 and Alfred, who had 155 student-athletes honored.
