Softball Drops a Pair to RIT

Houghton, NY- Houghton softball fell twice on senior day to RIT. The Highlanders dropped game one, 11-2, before losing, 11-5, in game two.

Kayla Loomis went the distance in game one before Alisabeth Crandall did the same in game two.

Game 1

The Tigers game out swinging and scored two runs in the first inning. The Highlanders responded in the bottom of the second with a Jennifer Page double, scoring Kristin Keller and Chyanne Bushyhead.

But that was the end of Highlander scoring in game one. The Tigers put up nine more runs the rest of the game and that was enough to close out the loss for the Highlanders.

Loomis pitched all five innings, allowing 11 hits, five earned runs, with two strikeouts and two walks.

Game 2

The Tigers picked up where they left off in game one, scoring one run in the top of the first and another in the top of the second.

Houghton responded in the bottom of the second with a single from Elise Swanson followed by a Bushyhead home run to deep left-centerfield.

The Highlanders took the lead in the bottom of the third after Swanson doubled to left-center, scoring Carlee Miller, but the Tigers responded in the top of the fifth, taking the lead 4-3.

Houghton again came back to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth, making it 5-4 on another Bushyhead home run, her fourth of the season. But that was the end of scoring for the Highlanders. RIT scored six in the sixth inning and one in the seventh to close game two.

Crandall pitched all seven innings, allowing 18 hits, 10 earned runs, two strikeouts and one walk.
