WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Houghton softball dropped two games Tuesday at the DiamondPlex in Winter Haven, Fla., on their second day of the season.
The Highlanders opened the day with an 8-0 loss to Chatham University before closing the day with a tight 4-3 loss to Adrian College.
GAME 1 vs. Chatham University
Houghton dropped this game with an 8-0 shutout. Jennifer Burrows pitched 2 and 2/3 innings, giving up 7 runs on 8 hits.
Alisabeth Crandall came in, in relief, pitching 2 and 1/3, giving up 1 run on 2 hits. Houghton was only able to grab two hits in the game by
Lydia Peterson and
Carlee Miller.
Game 2 vs. Adrian College
The Highlanders rebounded with a strong second game but came up a little bit short, giving up a run in bottom of the 7
th to lose 4-3. Leading the way at the plate for the Highlanders was
Elise Swanson with 2 RBI's, one coming from a sac fly to center, driving in pinch runner,
Natalie Cunningham after a
Carlee Miller double; another coming from a sac fly to center field in the 6
th inning, driving in
Lydia Peterson.
Lydia Peterson had 1 RBI- driving in a run on a drag sacrifice bunt,
Danielle Nelson scored.
Kayla Loomis pitched all 7 innings, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits.
The Highlanders will be back in action on Thursday, March 2 against Neumann University at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. against Eastern University at the DiamondPlex in Winter Haven, Fla.
