HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Houghton College softball team was swept by Cazenovia College in a non-conference weekend series Saturday, March 27. The Highlanders fall to 0-6 for the season heading into conference play next week. Houghton fell to the Wildcats, 5-1, before being upended, 9-8, in eight innings in the second.

Game 1: Houghton 1, Cazenovia 5

Houghton had offensive opportunities as it out-hit Cazenovia, 9-8, however could not capitalize as the Highlanders left nine runners stranded.
Hannah Haskell led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4, while tallying Houghton's sole run.

Game 1 Notes:
- In addition to Haskell, Caitlyn Cybart also had a multi-hit game as she produced two to go along with an RBI.
- Four other Highlanders registered a hit.
- Kayla Loomis earned the starting nod at the mound and was ultimately sacked with the loss as she gave up seven hits and five runs throughout five innings of work.

Game 2: Houghton 8, Cazenovia 9

The Highlanders once again out-performed the Wildcats at the plate as they produced a season-best 12 hits to Cazenovia's nine. Going to eight, 6-6, Cazenovia was able to produced three runs to Houghton's two, handing the Highlanders' another loss.

The Wildcats opened the game with five runs in the first inning which included a Houghton error. The Highlanders got themselves on the board in the second with a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Kristin Keller.

Houghton got within one, 5-4, in the bottom of the second starting with
Jen Page and
Hannah Cybart both getting with a pair of singles and putting themselves in scoring positions with a double steal. With one out, C. Cybart smacked a double to center field, scoring both H. Cybart and Page. C. Cybart was able to come home after
Alisabeth Crandall drove it up the middle.

The Highlanders produced the equalizer in the fourth after Page reached on a fielder's choice, while
Lydia Peterson crossed home after an error by the pitcher. The game was silent until the bottom of the sixth when Houghton scored the go ahead with another Page run with a Haskell RBI.

The Wildcats tied the game back up in the seventh before added three more runs in the eighth. Houghton could not match Cazenovia as they only got two runners in off an error and a double while leaving one on base.

Game 2 Notes:
- C. Cybart had an impressive showing at the plate, going 3-for-5. Cybart also produced a pair of doubles to go along with her season high three runs and three RBIs.
- Page, having a multi-hit game, scored two runs for the Highlanders to go along with her one RBI.
- A total of eight Highlanders had a hit at the plate while four were able to come across with runs.
- Relieving Anna Frerichs in the pitching mound during the first inning, Loomis was ultimately sacked with the loss through 7.2 innings of work.

The Highlanders return to action on Tuesday, March 30 when they travel to start Empire 8 play against Elmira college. First pitch it slated for 3 p.m.
