HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Houghton College Softball dropped two games in it's first appearance this season to the D'Youville College Saints. The Highlanders (0-2) narrowly fell to D'Youville (2-0), 2-1, in the first game before the Saints took the second, 8-3.
Game 1:
Houghton 1, D'Youville 2
The bats were quiet for both teams until the fourth inning when D'Youville got on the board with two runs off three hits. Houghton answered straight back with a
Caitlyn Cybart double to put herself in scoring position. Cybart put the Highlanders on the board by taking advantage of a Saint error.
Grace Thompson reached first on the same error, however, the Highlanders stranded her there after three straight outs.
Game 1 Notes
- Five different Highlanders produced hits in the season opener, however they left eight on base throughout the game.
- Cybart led the way with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate and tallying Houghton's lone run.
- Hannah Haskell put up a double while also drawing a walk.
- On the mound, Kayla Loomis (0-1) went all seven, giving up seven hits and two runs while striking out two.

Game 2:
Houghton 3, D'Youville 8
After the Saints opened the second game with a run, the Highlanders struggled to get home as they left one on base in the first two innings. D'Youville tacked on insurance runs in the third and fifth to give them a 6-0 lead.
Houghton started chipping away at the Saint's lead in the bottom of the fifth after a Cybart double brought home Haskell and
Lydia Peterson to get them within four. Cybart was ultimately stranded at second with a fly out to center.
The Highlanders were able to tack another run in the sixth, but couldn't shake off D'Youville's 10 hit performance in the second matchup.
Game 2 Notes:
- Haskell was a force at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
- Cybart once again showed up for the Highlanders with her second double of the day and producing two RBIs.
- Hannah Cybart also had a multi-hit game producing two to go along with a run.
- Peterson also came across the plate for Houghton while tacking on a walk to her stat line.
- Grace Thompson and Elise Swanson each added a hit to the Highlander's nine for the game.

The Highlanders return to action Wednesday, March 24
th when they take a short trip up to Buffalo to face off against Buffalo State. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
