CLERMONT, Fla. – Houghton closes their trip to Florida on Saturday with yet another win. The Highlanders clinched the win against John Jay, 6-2, following their defeat at the hands of Webster, 7-2. Houghton spent the week playing ten games in six days and are heading home with a 4-6 record on the season. This was a remarkable improvement compared to the 2019 season having won only a single game in Florida after playing the same amount.

Game 1
Webster 7, Houghton 2
Houghton fell behind 1-0 in the first and was able to tie the game in the second. The Gorlocks went on to score four runs in the next four innings. The Highlanders only had an answer for one of those runs to make it 5-1 heading in to the sixth. Webster used the final inning to extend their lead, 7-2 while the Highlander had no reply.
Despite the result Houghton's bats were not silent. Seven different Highlanders contributed to their eight hit total,
McKenzie Marti, Hannah Haskell, Caitlyn Cybart, Andrea Taboni, Barbara Richert and
Lauren Couturier each had one hit while
Grace Thompson had two. Â
Run one for the Highlanders came off a fielding error by the Gorlocks allowing
A. Taboni to reach first base and
G. Thompson to score. They earned their second run of the game in the sixth. This inning was a four-hit inning for the Highlanders. Ultimately,
B. Richert batted in a run with her single to right field. The Highlanders were in the best position to even scoring during this inning, being that they left three more players on base when Webster caught the Highlanders stealing for the third out.
Â
Although not due to lack of effort, the Gorlock's performance would be too much for the Highlanders to overcome as the fell by a final score of 7-2.

John Jay 2, Houghton 6
In Houghton's final match of the Spring Break series,
Caitlyn Cybart's spectacular performance, going 3 for 3 at bat and scoring two times, led Houghton to victory.
After going down to the Bloodhounds, 1-0, Houghton would tie up the score off of one of
C. Cybart's previously mentioned runs. Her triple flying deep into right field put her in a good position to score enabling the Highlanders to end the second 1-1.
Houghton opened the flood gates in the top of the fourth. They choreographed a four hit, three run inning. The first score of the inning was a run batted in by
Kristin Keller's single to left field, allowing
G. Thompson to score.
L. Couturier would add an RBI of her own bringing
C. Cybart safely over home plate. The third and final run of the inning came in an uncommon fashion,
K. Keller stole home off of a failed attempt by the bloodhound to catch L. Couturier stealing second, pushing the Houghton lead to 4-1.
Houghton went on to win, 6-2 on the back of
Kayla Loomis' 10 strike outs. K. Loomis went the distance on the mound holding the Bloodhounds to only five hits and two runs on the day. This performance for the Highlanders advances them to 4-6 on the season ultimately, sending them back to Houghton in good spirits.
