Cross Country Wraps up Regular Season at Lock Haven

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Joanna Friesen and Jonathan Lewis were the top Houghton finishers, respectively, for the Highlanders women's and men's cross country teams Saturday at Lock Haven University.

The women finished 11th out of 19 teams, while the men finished 13th out of 16.

The meet completed Houghton's regular season campaign, as they now prepare for the Empire 8 Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1.

Friesen completed the 6K course in 23:30, good for 25th place as she moved up over 20 spots across the final kilometer. Cara Davenport finished 74th in 25:07, Christel Enriquez-Fisher was 86th (25:25), Ella Hotchkiss was 95th (25:43), and Katrina Relyea was 112th (26:17).

"Every one of our girls ran at least a minute faster than our last 6k at Cairn University on September 6," said Head Coach Patrick Hager. "It's always a positive to see a team progress over the course of the season. Bek Anderson, Karah Ashley, and Ellie Stultz all improved by over 2:30 in the 6k and were able to work together to all dip under 30:00."

In the men's 8K race, Lewis was 105th in 29:27, with Charles Easttey just behind in 108th in 29:33. Luke DeBoer (120th in 30:00) and Aaron Eisenhardt (122nd in 30:07) each had personal bests, as did Terry Krangar (136th in 30:39) and Jackson Baker (161st in 32:59).

"Our main goal for the men was qualifying for NCCAA's, which we did not accomplish," said Hager. "The men keep taking chunks of time off, but we are having trouble getting our top five to all run 'well' on the same day. All but two guys ran lifetime bests today."

The teams return to action on November 1 for the E8 Championship in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
