Occupied in December 1980, the Nielsen Physical Education Center houses a maple hardwood floor that can be divided into three separate gymnasium facilities for use by the basketball and volleyball programs. The site has access to men's and women's locker rooms, showers, and an athletic training room. 

Fitness Center/ Weight Room 
A 2,200 square-foot track-level fitness center is air-conditioned and features cardio equipment, dumbbells and cable circuit training machines.

George R. Wells Natatorium

Tthis six-lane 25-meter pool features three diving boards (one a three-meter board).

Indoor Track
The Nielsen Physical Education Center also features a jogging and walking track for use by the community. The Mondo Surface is widely considered one of the best track surfaces and is used by numerous elite and international championship tracks. 

Racquetball Courts
Four racquetball courts are also housed in the Nielsen Center, located on the sub level at the end the main athletic gymnasium. 

Aux Gym
This facility serves as a multi-purpose activity area for various community events, including youth gymnastics and fitness classes. The Aux gym is also home to Houghton's indoor rock climbing wall.

Visiting Team Information

Visiting Teams Served: Basketball and volleyball

Directions: Visiting teams should use the main university entrance off Route 19 to access the Nielsen Center. And follow the recommended bus route through campus.

Parking: Ample parking is available for spectators and visiting team buses and vans. Teams can be dropped off at the main entrance to the Nielsen Center and it is recommended that buses park on the far West side of the lots immediately across from the Nielsen Center during the contest. Please do not let buses idle.

Locker rooms: Visiting teams will be greeted by a site supervisor upon arrival and will directed to their assigned locker rooms, which will be available 90 minutes prior to the start of the contest. Locker rooms are equipped with a dry erase board, but classroom meeting space is available upon request.

Basketball Benches: The Houghton Highlanders will occupy the south bench (right side as you face scorer's table) for all home games. For any neutral-site contest held at Houghton, the team declared as the home team will occupy the south bench.

Uniforms: The Highlanders will wear home white uniforms, unless other arrangements have been made and the opposing coach has been notified.
