HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The inside-outside play of Allegheny College proved a tough matchup for Houghton women's basketball as the Highlanders lost 74-39 at home Saturday.

The Highlanders started out strong, going toe to toe with the Gators. But with the scored tied at 11 with 13:53 to go in the first half, Allegheny went on a 12-0 run to gain a cushion over the hosts. Houghton was able to trim the lead to 29-20 with 3:04 to go, but four-straight three pointers from the Gators sent them to a 41-20 halftime lead.

Maisie Pipher (Lowman, NY, Twin Tiers Christian) scored 15 of her team's 20 points in the first half.

The Gators lead was steady between 23 and 25 points for most of the second half until about seven minutes to play. The guests increased their lead slowly as the final minutes ticked away.

Pipher finished with 17 points and seven rebounds for Houghton. Christel Enriquez-Fisher added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Gators hit 11 of 25 from three point range, while the Highlanders struggled, missing all seven of their attempts. The Gators had a 47-37 edge in rebounds.

Allegheny improves to 7-2 on the season.

Houghton (3-3) returns to action at Rochester Institute of Technology on Thursday, Dec. 6.
