BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Despite having a small squad in action, Houghton indoor track saw several strong early season performances at the Brockport College Invitational on Saturday.
Four athletes qualified for the 2015 NCCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, including Joanna Friesen (Sellersville, PA, Sellersville) in the Mile (5:23.9), Andrea Melhorn (Mount Joy, PA, Donegal) in the Weight Throw (12.84 meters), Marshall Brady (Wellsville, NY, Wellsville) in the 60m Hurdles (9.14), and Jordan Cady (Dundee, NY, Dundee HS) in the Triple Jump (12.61 meters). Â
"It's quite incredible at this point in the season when we really are working on base fitness and strength," said Head Coach Patrick Hager. "It was a great opener to dust off the cobwebs. I can't think of one athlete for Houghton that didn't compete to the level we thought they could, at this point in the season. What we're really looking for are some baseline marks for training purposes and working on the mechanics and technique of our athletes."
Hager should have his full squad ready as the team rounds into shape for the Highlanders next meet January 17 at RIT.
