NCCAA Crowns Cross Country National Champions

Roberts Wesleyan Women, Lee Men Capture Division I Titles, While Maranatha Baptist Men and Moody Bible Women Claim Division II Championships

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Near freezing temperatures and the occasional snow flurry couldn't thwart the spirit of more than 50 teams and 375 competitors taking part in the 2014 National Christian College Athletic Association Division I and II Cross Country National Championships at Houghton College on Saturday.

The day began with Roberts Wesleyan University women's dominating performance over the 5K course to grab the Division I championship with 27 points. Individual winner Rachel Prutsman (17:54.2) just beat out teammate Megan Hulton (17:58.7) for the title to lead a group six Redhawks in the top 11. Anna Bos of Trinity Christian finished third in 18:16.9.
The top 15 individual finishers in Division I earned NCCAA All-America honors.

Dallas Baptist finished second as a team with 95 points, with Trinity Christian (119 points) and Lee (Tenn.) (121 points) rounding out the top four.

The Division II results (race run concurrently with Division I) featured Moody Bible Institute's Katie Morris turning in a championship performance as the top finisher in 18:50.9. Her result would have placed her in the top 14 in Division I. Katherine Vander Pluym of Maranatha Baptist was DII runner-up in 19:57.6, while Annalise Schroeder of North Center (Minn.) grabbed third spot in 20:07.2.

Maranatha Baptist was second with 72 points, North Central (Minn.) finished third (95 points), and Cairn University (105) was fourth.

The top-five finishers in Division II earned NCCAA All-America honors.

As the men's race began the flurries started to increase, creating a winter wonderland over the 8K course. Tucker Hilley of Emmanuel (Ga.) and Bryant Keirns of Oklahoma Christian were unphased and dueled it out over the last 100 yards. Hilley grabbed the Division I title in the sprint finish, finishing in 25:05.8, with Keirns right behind in 25:06.9. Seth Eagleson rounded out the top-three with a run of 25:11.9.

Eagleson led three Lee runners in the top 12 to propel the Flames to the Division I title with 60 points. Oklahoma Christian was second with 83 points, Emmanuel (Ga.) (87 points) grabbed third, with Spring Arbor (121 points) turning in a fifth-place finish.

Among the Division II men's runners, it was Nathan Meeker of Multnomah turning in the day's best time in 26:39.3. Brian Knorr of University of Valley Forge finished second in 27:16.3, with Kevin England of Faith Baptist Bible in third (27:21.8).

The team results had Maranatha Baptist grabbing the title with 45 points. Multnomah was second with 68 points. Cairn was third (72 points) and North Central (Minn.) was fourth (95 points).

All-America honors went to the top five finishers in Division II and the top 15 in Division I.
